A high level delegation from the Government of Côte d’Ivoire, visited Ghana from 11 to 14 May 2016 to meet with Ivorian refugees in Ghana to update them on recent developments back home, and to inform them about the return and reintegration conditions, with a view to encourage them to voluntarily return home to help rebuild their country. The Ivorian delegation, led by Ms Mariatou Kone, Minister of Solidarity, Social Cohesion and Compensation of Victims met with urban refugees in Accra after paying a courtesy call to the Minister for the Interior, Hon. ACCRA, Ghana, 7 March (UNHCR) – UNHCR Ghana, brought excitement to patrons of the Food Court at the Accra Mall with a Flash Mob, to raise awareness of the issue of statelessness and to activate the #IBELONG Campaign in Ghana. A group of dancers dressed in #IBELONG branded t-shirts put together an energetic and expertly choreographed dance routine performed to the popular “I Love my Africa” song. The performance was climaxed with a speech read by volunteers, which informed bystanders of the causes and consequences of statelessness, and encouraged them to get involved by signing the open letter to end statelessness.

AMPAIN, Ghana, 12 October (UNHCR) – A 12-member television crew including two celebrated Spanish chefs and an international investigative journalist has visited the Ampain Refugee Camp in the Western Region to film a documentary that is to be used as part of fundraising efforts for Ivorian refugees in Ghana. The mission which was organized under the auspices of Spain for UNHCR (España con ACNUR), one of UNHCR’s six national fundraising partners, has come at an opportune time where UNHCR globally is struggling to respond to and meet the humanitarian needs of over 60 million refugees, asylum-seekers and internally displaced persons in the world due to severe funding shortfalls.
