Donation of Food and Non-Food Items by an American Student and His Father – Tarikom Refugee Reception Centre, Upper East Region (UER)

On 12th February 2026, Joe, an American student, and his father, an American philanthropist operating within the region, arrived and paid a courtesy call on the GRB Upper East Regional Office.

Discussions focused on the prevailing decline in donor agency funding for refugee-related projects and the urgent need to attract more benevolent individuals and partners to support ongoing refugee operations.

The executive secretary welcomed the donor partners and the regional coordinator, Mr. Sika Agbesi, who represented the region and collaborated with Joe and his father to provide them with the necessary support for the welfare and protection of refugees.

The coordinator seized the opportunity to provide a comprehensive overview of the refugee situation in the region and addressed all enquires. Subsequently, on 17th February 2026, the team, in collaboration with Catholic Relief Services and NABOCADO, donated assorted relief items to the refugees. The items included:

  • 25 beds
  • 25 mattresses
  • 42 bags of rice
  • 150 packets of salt
  • 4 packs of sanitary pads
  • 2 footballs

On behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Ghana Refugee Board, Nana Asare Bediako, the Regional Coordinator expressed profound gratitude to the team for their unwavering commitment to the welfare of refugees and assured them of the Board’s continued support in advancing refugee assistance efforts.
